St. Joseph’s Boys Hostel Gujranwala renovates washrooms.

New showers and toilets with modern finishes

The 60 students who live at the St Joseph’s Hostel, in Gujranwala the poor region of Punjab, are now enjoying newly renovated facilities. The project was undertaken during December and January, the coldest months of the year in Paksitan.  The weather didn’t help, with supplies and delieveries constantly delayed, however, the project continued and was completed in February. The project required a susbtantial amount of demolition to the old toilet block and remodeling to include more staff bathrooms.

The array of works included new electrical and  plumbing equipment, painitng, tiling and new toilet accessories. Gas water heating and fans were also installed. Fianlly, new windows were installed and modern energy-saving lights were also installed in the washrooms.

Mr. Benjamin, the hostel manager and Br Peter Abraham, supervised the project and ensured it was comepleted to a high standard, whilst also ensuring the safety of the students throughout. Such a large scope of work for an under served community. The hostel is home to the students for most of the year as their parents often work in remote parts of the country or many the chiildren are left behind with their grandparents who are no longer able to care for them.  The renovated facilities provide them with a dignified and comfortable space for their daily needs, helping them live in a healthier and more hygienic environment. The upgraded washrooms and showers have enhanced the overall living conditions in the hostel. Clean and well-maintained sanitation facilities contribute greatly to a positive residential environment for both staff and students.

The total cost of the project was AUD 15,600.
