  • WHO IS THE LASALLIAN (ASIA/PACIFIC) FOUNDATION LTD?

The Lasallian (Asia/Pacific) Foundation Ltd trading as the Lasallian Foundation is an Australian-based independent development organisation working primarily but not exclusively in the Asia Pacific and South Sudan. The Lasallian Foundation delivers aid and development programs to support marginalised children and their communities. The Lasallian Foundation is part of the international Lasallian/De La Salle network working for the betterment of children through education.

The Lasallian Foundation is a Charitable Institution (ABN 74 11 323 4889).

  • WHEN DID THE LASALLIAN FOUNDATION BEGIN ITS WORK?

The Lasallian Foundation was established in 2005 by the De La Salle Brothers of Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea to fund developmental and emergency relief projects in the Asia-Pacific region. The Foundation builds on a long history of informal support for projects initiated and conducted through their Mission Fund. Our aim is to continue expanding these activities into the future.

  • WHAT DOES THE LASALLIAN FOUNDATION DO?

In the tradition of our founder, St John Baptist De La Salle, the Lasallian Foundation believes that education is one of the key tools in the fight against poverty. Education provides numeracy, literacy, knowledge and skills that will create opportunities for children and young people with dignity and to enable them to live better lives.

  • WHAT TYPE OF PROGRAMS DOES THE LASALLIAN FOUNDATION SUPPORT?

The Lasallian Foundation supports development and infrastructure projects in schools and organisations that cater for the poor and marginalised. Project proposals are accepted only from recognised and trusted partners with the leadership, capacity and skills to implement the project when approved.

Programs include a wide range of initiatives such as basic water supply and sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Breakfast Club projects, providing funding for infrastructure projects, vocational training, curriculum resources and professional development activities.

The Lasallian Foundation implements and manages programs mainly in Pakistan and Papua New Guinea.

  • DOES THE LASALLIAN FOUNDATION HAVE ANY PROGRAMS IN AUSTRALIA?

No, the Lasallian Foundation’s role is to support projects in the Asia-Pacific region, and primarily in Pakistan and Papua New Guinea.

Another Lasallian organisation, yourtown, provides a wide range of services for disadvantaged children and young people aged to 25 years and their communities within Australia. The services provided by yourtown include help and reassurance to those experiencing life challenges such as physical and emotional abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, homelessness, low literacy, long-term unemployment and mental illness. Well-known services offered by yourtown are the Kids Helpline and Parentline telephone and online help services which offer one-on-one counselling to thousands of young people and their families.

The Lasallian Foundation is an independent development organisation. It has no membership or affiliation to any political party.

  • THE DE LA SALLE BROTHERS ARE A CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS CONGREGATION. DOES THE LASALLIAN FOUNDATION HELP ONLY CATHOLIC PEOPLE?

The Lasallian Foundation is founded upon Christian values, and its main mission is to provide support and opportunities for disadvantaged young people and their teachers without regard to their religious affiliation. Non-Catholic and non-Christian students and teachers benefit fully from project funding and activities as do Catholic students and teachers.
